In collaboration with HearThis, a Bootstrap Company, Bootstrap Austin now records and podcasts our events on the Boot Rap Podcast.
Creating a podcast is incredibly easy and I recommend it to all Evangelists. Unlike text blogs, audio captures Evangelist energy beautifully. MP3 files are much smaller than video files, which means they're easy to download. Finally, the equipment needed to record audio is very portable and can be used unobtrusively when you're giving a talk. You will need three items to get your podcast going:
1. An mp3 recorder. I use the iRiver T30 (1GB).
2. While the T30 has a built-in mic, plug in an external mic for better quality. The T30 does not supply power to an external mic, so you will need one with its own power. I use the Sony ECM-C115. (Contrary to their website, Sony's other model, ECM-CS10 does not come with the battery box for external power).
3. Hearthis.com will produce and host your podcast and post it to iTunes.

Bootrap is a model for how a podcast works. It is currently our most popular podcast and has a steady stream of interesting content. The upward trend in subscriptions is a testament to that. Nice work Bijoy and Bootstrap.
Regarding the mic light: it only lights for a second so that the LED doesn't drain the battery. I've left my mic "on" for days at at time and have yet to burn through a battery.
When you run the "quiet" audio from the T30 through a compressor, it sounds just great. Import your audio into Audiacity at http://www.sourceforge.net. Choose Effects/Compressor. After noise removal, it sounds great.
This interview was recorded with a rig just like yours:
